Todd, I think you're underestimating the value of this desk set.

So today I am going to try to work on my international moot court problem. I represent the good ol' nation of Rantania. I have a partner, who seems really cool. She and I don't work together so much while writing the brief, but mostly when we start to do oral argument. For the writing, I actually work with the person on the other team who has my same issues. The other side represents the maybe/maybe not country of Aprophe. I say that because they've been taken over by an interim President. The previous President and most of his Parliament ran away into Rantania for safety. And there's about 80 other issues in between, most of which are little nods to real things that have happened. The big one is the dispute over the Preah Vihear Temple in Cambodia right on the Thai border. That's the main issue in our problem (it's called something else of course), with all the other 79 issues essentially flowing from that. Good times.

I don't know WHERE the semester is going, it's pretty impressive. I do know at this rate I'm going to forget to go to the MPRE test on November 5th. This is the ethics test I have to take before I can take the bar. I did a mock test last night and out of 25 I got 21 right, and that was without studying. I'm not sure when I absorbed any information, because the class we're required to take ("professional responsibility") has sweet fuck-all to do with the actual test. I am also not about to get cocky--I have to study for this thing way more than I have. (Closer to the day, probably.) I don't want to have to take it again in February (and pay another $60). The questions can be hard only because two answers are "no" and two answers are "yes." So it's not enough to know that something is unethical--you have to know why it's unethical. (Seriously, shouldn't it be enough just to know not to do it!? Oh well.)

I also have to go do extensive research about the origins of human rights and philosophy. My research partner and I had to decide which of us was stronger in either philosophy or history. She admitted she was stronger in the latter, and while I wouldn't say I'm stronger in the former, I think in this case my interest is at least stronger. But the hard part is doing all this research and then immediately having to switch over to criminal law and in-depth research on search and seizure. My brain must be getting old and dusty, it doesn't want to change gears so often. :/ Oh and while I'm in criminal law gear I also have to read/brief 15 cases for my motion for a new trial based on new evidence. It's a real Rhode Island case, so it's at least very interesting!

But the more work I do now and this week, the more I can enjoy next weekend. There is a new print of Bringing Up Baby at the Emerson, which will have about 4 shows. And then Sunday night, I'm going to see Bill Maher! It's very sold out and I'm fairly certain I bought my ticket from a scalper, but as long as it gets me in the door. I'm always paranoid about those...

But look! Calmer post. Yay.
